People with a disabilities and long term health conditions are at significant risk of loneliness and exclusion. Over 30% of people aged 16 – 34 with a disability are experiencing chronic loneliness, and many more report going through periods of loneliness at least once in their life.
Thanks to support we receive from the community through raffle sales, fundraising events and donations, we are able to create opportunities to help prevent this from happening for the people we support. Aiden is a very active young man and one of the people who have benefitted from our events and activities within his community.
“I’ve become involved in a range of activities; I’m a drummer in the Connects band where we regularly play gigs and I’m also involved in the Connects Media Group and help make films (sometimes I even star in them!). I’ve also helped to grow and develop a beautiful garden and outdoor space at Summerlee Heritage Site. Our garden has a bird feeding area, flower beds and we’re currently working on building a path so that the space is wheelchair friendly. We also hold summer garden parties that are a great way to bring everyone together.”
You can help make a difference for people like Aiden by continuing to support our ongoing and transformative work with a simple monthly donation.
