Our Paula is excited for 2020!5 February 2020
Volunteering for your local Cornerstone branch is a fantastic way to participate in your community - and, for Paula Gallagher, it has helped her live her life to the full.
Paula lives in Airdrie and volunteers for Cornerstone North Lanarkshire . Paula is supported by Cornerstone Community Support Branch and has been supported by Cornerstone North Lanarkshire for many years.
After 20 years of volunteering, Paula loves being kept busy. Paula started volunteering by arranging fundraising raffles and bingos, before organising race nights, fashion shows and dances.
Over 20 years, Paula has gained lots of confidence, found new skills and made a huge difference in her community.
Paula celebrated 20 years by organising a night with an Abba tribute band A Salute to Waterloo, held in Coatbridge in November, and every ticket sold out.
She worked hard to collect gifts for prize hampers including toys for children, wine and snacks. A few weeks before the big night, she organised a successful tea party in support of the evening.
The tea party and tribute night together raised almost £1900 for North Lanarkshire. Our Cornerstone North Lanarkshire supports people to achieve positive outcome in their lives, social events and supported holidays.
Paula loves dancing and is part of her local theatre group. Gary Birtles from Groovy Gazza Productions saw how hard Paula worked on her big fundraiser and was delighted to invite her to join the group at performances in Scotland and England:
Paula has done amazing things for The Cornerstone Foundation. She worked tirelessly to arrange the charity night in Coatbridge and she is a big supporter to our shows, travelling down to Yorkshire to see the show with her companion, Mandy. She has an obvious love of dancing and we have invited her to dance on stage with us. She has now started contacting local hotels to introduce our shows to them. She is a bundle of energy and we look on her as not just a fan but an ambassador for the show as well.
Paula was the well-deserved winner of Cornerstone North Lanarkshire's Ambassador of the Year 2019 award.
In 2020, Paula wants to bring A Salute to Waterloo back on the stage - and she would love to combine this with a 60s Elvis night.
We are all so grateful to Paula for her many years of hard work and are looking forward to seeing what she has in store for 2020.
