Volunteering can be for the whole family!6 January 2020
June took grandson Noah on the Kiltwalk - and the youngest walker was the one who raised the most!
June Elwood has been one of our star volunteers in 2019 - but it's very much a family affair.
June has been employed as a Support Worker for Cornerstone in North Lanarkshire for three years, supporting children and young adults in Bellshill and Motherwell in our Kayaks team. This year, Kayaks have enjoyed trips to Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Blackpool, bowling and clay modelling.
She first got involved with fundraising for The Cornerstone Foundation last year when she joined one of our bagpacking events at Tesco.
June, alongside colleague Mhairi, daughter Debbie and Gary Marshall, who our service supports, raised £134.82 through a bucket collection at local team Albion Rovers during the summer.
However, her biggest achivement yet was conquering the Glasgow Kiltwalk with her family in April. Her squad, 'Wee Bob's Team', raised a fantastic £646.44 - with young Noah responsible for almost half of the total.
Volunteering alongside her family is what June enjoys most about her work.
Aged six, Noah is one of our very youngest Cornerstone Ambassadors, and he loves to fundraise for the Foundation. He raised £75 at his school, he does odd jobs around the house for his collection can, and sold handmade paper hedgehogs which he created with his 85-year-old great-grandmother.
June's brilliant 2019 concluded with her being nominated as Cornerstone North Lanarkshire Colleague of the Year.
In 2020, June wants to conquer even more challenges, with her family beside her.
